Directions: Wolcott Orchards 3284 W. Coldwater Rd. Mt. Morris, Mi. 48458.Take I-75 North to exit I-475 South, then take the Clio Rd exit south, the 1st traffic light (½ mile), turn right (west) on Coldwater Rd. go ½ mile then look on the right (north) side you will see a Red Building.

CW Signs will be posted on the route to the Wolcott Orchard.

 
General Rules and Policies: Fifth Texas Co. E wants to thank you for your cooperation. This event, in conjunction with the Wolcott Orchard and is to provide an educational as well as enjoyable weekend for both civilian visitors and re-enactors. Take notice that we will have a person assigned to observe, at random, for any non-period articles in public, during Event hours. This is done in fun as well as for a good cause. We are trying this so we can be alittle more aware of our portrayal, as reenactors so, on guard, sort of speak, Remember it’s all in fun so please cooperate. Our person is Leon Henne, the sheriff.

Registration:
All participants’ pre-registration is preferred for the event by April 30, 2008. We will limit registration to the first 300 Confederates and 300 Union. Walk on registrars will be welcomed only if it does not go over the required amount. All participants must register individually and sign a release form (at the site) before they will be allowed to participate. Parents or legal guardians must sign a release form for minors. Registration will be open Friday May 16, 2008 from 3pm until Midnight. It will re-open from 7:00 am until 10:00 am Saturday.

ICE- Ice will be available at the office. Also, 2 bags per side per battle will be available from the 5th for the troops.

Recruiting Tent Set-up- we encourage any Unit to set up a Recruiting Tent Set-up in the designated area.

Set-up: All units are welcomed to set-up there sites, starting Thursday the 15th of May. During Orchard hours. We will be having a School tour demonstration on Friday between 10 am to 3 pm. We are expecting around 300 students. Any units wishing to participate may set-up for this until 9 am Friday. Absolutely no set-ups between 9 am-3 pm. Other units may set-up after 3 pm, so we can make sure the area is cleared of buses & school children. Note: This doesn't mean that you must participate to set-up on Thursday. Please keep roads clear while unloading. Please ask if any questions.

Reenactor Parking:
All reenactors will be required to park in the designated parking areas. Please keep roads clear while unloading. Tear down is after the event. It begins after 4:30 p.m. Sunday. No modern vehicles will be allowed in the camp areas after 9:00 am Saturday. Unless it is a Medical emergency.

Visitors Parking: In Designated areas only.

Conduct:
All participants (civilian and military) must be dressed in period style clothing when in the authentic camps. Noise should be limited in all camps during evening hours. Any participant, who does not maintain good conduct or act in a safe manner, will be asked to leave the event. No Alcohol is permitted. Children must be supervised at all times.

Safety:
All participants are required to maintain good safety behavior during the weekend. There will be no unauthorized discharge of any type of weapon in any of the camps. Safety Inspections will be held before the Sunday tactical and battles both Saturday and Sunday in the Federal and Confederate camps. All troops must report to their respective camps for inspection. No one will be allowed to participate in the battles unless he has registered and passed a safety inspection. Fires-No fire will be left unattended. Adult supervision will be needed. All troops may carry correct period military weapons. Either 2 or 3 banded Enfield or Springfield or other authentic weapons. Only officers, Calvary and artillerymen may carry side arms.

Safety Rules for Field:
1.Ramrods are to be kept in the pipes. They are not to be removed at any time on the field.
2.Halfcock on the lock must be functional at all times and inspected prior to engagements.
3.Only officers and NCO s may carry swords.
4.Bayonets are to remain in their scabbards during all combat scenarios.
5.Only officers and artillerymen may carry side arms.

Hand-to-Hand Engagements:
No soldier may engage in hand to hand fighting unless it has been approved by the overall Union or Confederate Commander and has been thoroughly scripted in advance. All hand-to-hand engagements are the responsibility of the unit's commanding officer to ensure safety.

Ammunition: Maximum powder loads
two or three band musket, rifle & shotgun 60 - 70 grains (FF or EFF powder)
Pistols (20 - 30 grains FF or FFF powder) (no unapproved wadding for pistols)

AGE:
All battlefield reenactors must be 16 years or older. This requirement may be waived for functioning field Musicians.

Drill:
There will be company drill for both the Confederate and Union participants both Saturday and Sunday. At the discretion of the over-all-commanders for the event, there may also be Battalion drill both days. Fields have been set aside for drills. It is asked that these fields be used for that purpose.

Battles:
There will be two battles for the spectators, one each Saturday and Sunday. There will also be a tactical course that will be run on Sunday morning. Because of this we are asking that each participant bring 200 rounds of authentically rolled cartridges to the event. No penny wrappers or the like, staples, plastic, or taped cartridges may be used. All unattached individuals will be assigned to a company for the battles. We also ask that soldiers do not clear their weapons independently after the battle. The company officers will reform their commands and clear pieces at that time.

CAMPING:
For the purposes of this event, camps have been established for the Confederate and Union military as well as the civilians attending the event. Military and Civilian camps must be policed by company officers and we ask that all non-period items be hidden from view when at Wolcott Orchard when the camp is open to the public.

Tents in camp will be limited to the following:
Military camps: A-Frame tents or shelter tents. No wall tents will be allowed on company streets, wall tents will be allowed only for commanding officers. Campaign style camps are encouraged in both military camps.

Civilian camps: Wall, A-Frame and/or period style tents are permitted as long as they are of period materials and design.

Modern Camping: A Fee of $10 per night charge, See Wolcott office. No water/electrical or sewer hookup available.

Cleanup:
All participants in all camps are required to clean up their campsite after the battle on Sunday before they leave. All trash picked up, straw raked into piles, and all fires extinguished and pits resodded. No digging of garbage pits please use containers. Pile unused firewood back in the main pile. Please leave the area as you found it. Note: It is the Capt.'s responsibility to make sure this is completed.

Noise Curfew:
There will be a noise curfew in all camps after 11:00 p.m. both, Friday and Saturday nights.

Women in the Ranks:
In keeping with historical accuracy, women discovered in the ranks will be removed as would have happened in the time period being portrayed.

Civilians:
This event has opportunities for civilians to participate in certain activities. We ask that any civilian interested in participating in first person activities please express their interest at the time of registration. No Flags for Display, Please.Rules for box social and the baking contest for the registration packet.  I am also going to be sending you an article I wrote to help us with our tactical. Please, if you could print me up some copies to pass out at winter meeting.  I'll get that to you as soon as possible.

SUTLERS:
Will be available. (Sutlers please see or contact Jim Mitchell for set-up location)

Horses: Will have Registered Documents as required by the State of Michigan.½ bale of Hay per day per horse allowed. The first 2 Units will receive a $100 Bounty.
